Joyful NEW Life
What if we thought about a new everything, not just a new year? What if we made it a goal to change into the best version of ourselves by truly submitting our lives to God? I have been trying everyday to read "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young. Although, I tend to skip a few days when I pick it up it is exactly what I need to hear. The entry for December 30th was calling me to truly give my own life up. Give up all MY wants, MY problems, MY concerns, and TRUST. God made us all exactly how he wants us. He made us with special talents and gifts. He made our hearts to hurt and to love, so we can feel the needs around us.
This morning as I was watching the Today Show, the author of a book about choosing one word was on their show. Basically from what I understood you pray and search yourself for a single word that you should focus on for 1 year. After that year you pick another word. I have never tried this, but I have always felt like my word would be ENCOURAGE. I have never felt like I would be a good encourager all the time because when someone becomes negative I tended to be the first one to jump on the negative train and get it trucking down to Depressionville. That is where my husband, who I have gotten to watch grow immensely in the last year into an absolutely AMAZING Christian man, leader, helper, listener, comes in to play. I LOVE HIM MORE THAT I COULD EVER HAVE IMAGINED. He has truly given his life and everything tied to it to the Lord. He does not allow me to be negative or pitch into negativity. He actually calls me out on my errors which if you knew me then you know that is exactly what I need. He has started reading and listening to self development books which turned into me reading self development books.
ENCOURAGE. That is all. It doesn't sound like a huge feat, but I am going to go for it! This year will be devoted to that one word. My husband always helps me out so much when it comes to my attitude. If I don't want to do something, don't think I am making a "difference", or feel like whatever I am doing is pointless my husband will ask me, what can you do for the kingdom in it? He blows me away sometimes. These are all new questions from him haha. I used to get blank stares or some short comment to quit griping (I am enjoying the new conversation a lot more). Think about it though. I am going somewhere boring, pointless, negative, are there people there? YES. Then I can do something for the kingdom. I can be a light. I can bring them closer to God, maybe even introduce them to Him. WHOA! That makes every day seem so crucial!!! If I actually went grocery shopping with that mind set I may not hate it so much :) Haha just maybe.
Anywho, Happy New Year, but make it something that is just NEW and always. So no more Happy New Year, how about about Joyful New Life every day? Now I know that won't catch on because celebrating something everyday would get old right? HAHA NO!!! We celebrate another day that the Lord has given us to add to His kingdom every day!!! I ENCOURAGE you to do it! (see what I did there? :)
